Stove & Chimney Specialists

All installations as well as chimney and fireplace alterations are carried out by Jan Wilson. Jan is HETAS qualified and has been a stove and chimney specialist since 1990 and took over the family business in 2007.

No work is subcontracted out to an anonymous builder in your area. Jan only uses an assistant for fitting larger stoves  and lining tall chimneys. Otherwise, Jan will complete your fitting from start to finish.

After your consultation and a stove has been chosen, Jan will come to your home to complete a site survey. He will take measurements and check for any flue or air supply issues or if any additional work is required.

Following the site survey Jan manufactures the steel register plate. The register plate is bespoke to your chimney with pipe adapters which is welded in place. No fibreboard is used.

It is rare that the original quote from the initial consultation changes but the site survey will confirm this.

If a hearth is required, Jan uses Welsh slate as standard but other materials can be used. Where a reline is required, Jan uses high grade steel liner that attaches to the register plate.

Jan is able to access most chimneys via ladders. However, should access be impossible by ladders then a 'Cherry Picker' will be used which is charged at cost.

For fireplace alterations Jan will open up the fireplace to the original opening and hopefully discover some original features such as a brick archway.

Once the installation is complete then all you need to do is pay Jan and light your fire!

Don't forget that new stoves will initially give off a Strong Odour on their first light up. This will subside after a few fires.

Watch out for a cold chimney. For good draw, warm the chimney first with a strong fire then use the air flow controls on your stove to establish an ambient working temperature.

Fireplace Alterations

The existing opening was too small to fit a stove. The slate surround and broken cast inset needed to be removed and the fireplace opened up to the original opening.

Care was taken not to damage the Thermocrete pour down liner as the brick was removed.

A feature brick archway was revealed.

The Morso Badger stove was installed on a Welsh slate hearth.

The fireplace simply requires a coat of paint on the new plaster and wood skirting to be fitted up to the slate.
